tax the colonies for the tea
Since it had been argued by colonists that the Stamp Act was unacceptable because it was a direct tax, Parliament reasoned an indirect tax would be accepted. As a result after repealing the Stamp Act, they imposed the Townshend Acts which taxed items such as tea, lead, paint and paper. The colonists were outraged at this tax as well and considered Britain's attempt to put taxes on them, while not affording them Parliamentary representation was tantamount to subjugation.
The Townshend Acts were passed as a result of the Seven Years' War that occurred between 1756 and 1763 (that's not 7 years, but they call it that anyway.)
Britain was in serious debt, and as usual when a nation is in debt during or after wartime, they had to tax someone. So, they taxed the British colonies.

British Acts that caused the Revolutionary war are the Stamp Act, Sugar Act, Townshend Acts, Quartering Act (no not a quarter), and the Tea Act. These acts caused rebellions and the bigger picture, the Revolutionary war.
Colonists in Boston decided to protest the townshend acts. They called for a boycott of British goods. Samuel Adams led the boycott.
The British was motivated in passing the Townshend Acts to collect taxes owed. They also wanted to punish the colonists.
The taxes to remain after the Townshend Acts were repealed were the Intolerable/Coercive Acts and the other big tax to remain is the Tea Acts
