The difference in composition is what caused the Earth to develop layers as it cooled.!Differences in density caused earth to develop layers as it cooled. The earth has different layers because as it formed, the lighter parts (like continental crust) floated to the surface, and the really heavy parts (like iron and nickel in the core) sank to the middle.

Earth cooled down enough for rain to fall.
seismic waves.
the clear logical answer is that it was made 5 billion years ago and i qoute the logical answer
The Earth's plates were caused by natural reasons and cannot be explained. Scientists think that the plates were formed as a result of Earth first expanding as it was heated in the Great Bombardment and then shrinking as it cooled.
Earth is layered due to gravitational compression that caused dense materials to sink onto the Earth's center, while the less dense materials rose.
earth cooled suffciently
Well, with the layers of rock forming over-time thus helping to create structure, to hold the weight of the earth... When the universe was created, the planets were hot massive balls of lava. But, since it is cool in the universe, the planets cooled down on the outside, leaving the lava as the core. Then, as you progress outward from the middle, the layers get cooler. They are different temperatures and the rock is in different conditions.
When the Earth was newly formed it was molten, and there were none of the separate layers that are present today. As it cooled, the Earth became density stratified, with the densest material (predominantly iron) sinking to form the core, and the less dense material forming the mantle and crust.
