Burning of Rome. The burning of Rome had nothing to do with Nero's downfall. In fact many people praised his rebuilding efforts, even his enemies. Nero was also loved by the poor. The cause of Nero's downfall the rebellion of Gaius Julius Vindex, the governor of Roman province Gallia Lugdunensis, against Nero's tax policies.and the support he received from Servius Sulpicius Galba, the governor of Hispania Tarraconensis, when Nero got Lucius Verginius Rufus, the governor of Germania Superior, to suppress his rebellion. Vergius defeated Vindex, However, the troops from Germania were unhappy with Nero and Galba marched on Rome. The imperial guard in Rome also turned its back on Nero and supported Galba. Nero tired to commit suicide, but he could not do it. He got his his private secretary to kill him.
