a conveyer of warm, very moist sub-tropical air was carried towards Britain, then the warm air rose over the Cumbria mountain’s, cooled and condensed as heavy rain causing relief rain to fall for 34 hours on the mountains then the run off entered the rivers Finally the river cocker and the river derwent causing the rivers to burst their banks and flood Cockermouth.

The cockermouth flood happened in Cumbria
The Cockermouth floods were caused by years worth of rain in just a few hours causing three rivers to flow into each other. The rivers over flowed a destroyed much of central Cockermouth. Cockermouth is still recovering from the disaster of November 2009.

The human causes of the Cockermouth flooding was the amount of buildings and roads so the water was unable to go anywhere
Cockermouth suffered badly in the nationwide flood on 19 and 20 November 2009.Over 200 people were rescued. Many historic buildings were severely damaged, also a number of bridges in and around the town.
