were the Anasazi wanders or did they settle in one area
We have no evidence of a Anasazi empire. The Anasazi started leaving the area they were in for the south and east in the mid 1200s.
By the year 1300 AD, the entire northern section of the Colorado Plateau (today's Mogollon Rim area) was mysteriously abandoned by the natives. This ended the Pueblo period of development of the Native Americans and the end of the pure Anasazi culture. It is not known exactly why the Anasazi left their homes but drough is one of the compelling factors. They did not all leave at once. Small groups at a time drifted away from the plateau. There was a severe drought from 1276 to 1299 and attacks by nomadic tribes may have also contributed to the move of the Anasazi. Their migration may have also been caused by developing and changing religious beliefs and climatic changes.
