Diversion of water of feeder rivers for irrigation projects
According to About.com, about 1/3 of the volume and 1/2 of the surface area of the Aral Sea, located in Uzbekistan, has dried up because of diversion by farmers of the two sources (the Amu Darya and Syr Darya rivers) that feed it.
It just depends on global warming as it is shrinking by the high temperatures that global warming has caused which means that the Aral Sea will eventually evaporate, so if climate changes and global warming stay low hopefully the Aral sea will be saved.
