it may have a cracked circuit board, my blazer had the same problem

could be the motor or switch acting up(getting old) since the switch is cheaper, replace that first...:) a manual will help with diagnosis and repair, and a shop manual should be available at the local library in the reference section for FREE, make copies of the right pages, good luck...:)
First, make sure the windshield is clean and then take some alcohol and wipe the wiper blades. HTH.
A problem we found was that the nut holding the wiper in place had come lose all we had to do was tighten the nut and the wipers worked
