What causes a 1989 Nissan Sentra not to start?
could be any number of things you need to list symptoms as to what it does when you try to start it or what it ran like the last time it was running
1989 Nissan Sentra Wagon 5 Speed intermittently wants to die out. Unless I give it gas it will stall. It will start back up again, with the same problem until problem stops. No pattern to diagnose.
How to Set timing on nissan sentra 1600cc 1989 model
The thermostat on a 1989 Nissan Sentra is on the front of the motor to the left. It is just below where the valve cover meets top of the manifold. The thermostat is enclosed in the radiator hose at that location.
very carefully :)
take it to a strret raceing shop!
Inside the fuel tank, on the top.
maybe check the thermostat.
It is either on the compressor, the smaller ac line, or the accumulator.
Try going to www.kbb.com and enter the data. This will give you a good ballpark in which to work.
You don't. 89 sentra does not have a timing belt, instead it has timing chain. I have the 1989 Nissan Sentra 1.6L 4-dr sedan. My timing chain needs to be replaced. It runs inside the motor. It is a big task for an auto mechanic to replace it. It will cost me at a *trustworthy* business $470 for part(s) and labor to replace it. Expect it to take a whole day for the car to… Read More

What do you do if your 89 Nissan Sentra clutch pedal quit working and you could not get it in gear but you forced it into reverse and now it is stuck in reverse.?
If a 1989 Nissan Sentra clutch pedal quit working and the car is now stuck in reverse, it will need to be towed to a repair shop to fix the clutch. The transmission may also be damaged due to it being stuck in reverse.
take off the case that covers the air filter and look for a black cable behind the intake. follow it to the air intake and it should be right there.
the fuel filter is located on the drivers side of the car against the firewall. remember to pull the fuse for the fuel pump, then start the car to release the pressure in the system, when the car dies, then disconnect the lines to the fuel filter otherwise be prepared for a gasoline shower. good luck!
Because you need a new one, sorry pal, just had to do the same with my jeep. try not to ride the clutch while driving, it'll only make it worse
It is very easy. There are a couple screws holding the outer frame. take them out and u will see more scews take them out too. you can just pull it out now.
I need more information. Does the starter turn over the engine? Do you hear a click when you try to start it?
I have a 1.6 L motor, it was; torque to 21, then torque to between 51 and 54 lbs. completely loosen bolts then repeat tightening pattern above.

What part needs to be replaced for a 1989 Nissan Sentra when the odometer and speedometer are not working?
Most of the time, the speedometer cable breaks, and you replace it. The best way to find out, is to unscrew it from the transmission, and see if you can pull the cable out from the casing. If it checks out to be good, then it will be the drive gear inside the transmission, or the speedometer itself.
Answering "Where is a oil pump locatedon a 1989 Nissan path finder?"
It depends on the size of the leak and where it is. If it is a small leak around the rear seal of the transmission you might try transmission stop leak of some kind. You can purchase these at Wal-Mart or any auto parts store.
You have a 1989 Nissan sentra XE hatchback with a 16 l engine Intermitantly the car's engine will start to stutter and shake at idle and spit while making black exhaust smoke if you rev it any ideas?
I as well have a 1989 Sentra that would do the same and the problem was that when the engine got warm, the oil started to leak into the distributor. The oil would mess up the ignition timing, hence the poor idle and non burn issues. Take apart your distributor and see if there is any oil in it. It is very easy to take off the car, 2-12mm bolts DO NOT turn the engine… Read More

I do believe, after just locating myself, that the starter for a 1989 Nissan Sentra is located on the back, lower-half of the engine itself. It's a small, inconspicuous part. To find it easier on this, and all other vehicles, just follow the positive cable line that comes off of your car's battery. It will eventually lead to the starter. (Be careful, there are other cables delivering electric to other areas of the vehicle, i.e… Read More

Is replacing a front main seal on a 1989 Nissan sentra something someone might attempt with a repair manual or just for the professional mechanic?
Get a manual, follow it and go for it. Changing seals is not too hard, the main problem is getting access in the engine space. Cars nowadays seem to fill up every inch of available space under the bonnet
