If it is a manual transmission, then it is on the front of the transmission. It is one of the two electical connectors on the transmission. The other is the vehicle speed sensor on the backside of the transmission.

ok, to start off, not trying to sound like a smartass or anything, but their is no dipstick on a manual transmission. their is a fill/check plug on the side of the transmission. you have to take it out and check the level that way on a manual transmission.

"Grinding" isn't nearly enough information, but the automatic transmission on the 91 to 94 explorers are notoriously weak and very prone to failure.
