The intake manifold gaskets have failed on many of the V6 and V8 Chevy and GMC trucks in our fleet. The replacement gaskets are a better design that the original.
5.7 engine 17.2 qts. w/rear air 20 qts.
check the oil in engine to see if it has coolant in itwhite smoke is caused by coolant or water burning with fuelsounds like you have a blown head gasketi would also find a better mechanic
A surge tank is basically a pressurized coolant reservoir. As your engine heats and cools the coolant expands and contracts. Because of this You need a place for extra coolant to go to when it expands and be drawn from when it contracts. Conventionally the recovery tank or reservoir was not pressurized. A tube from the radiator cap allowed coolant to be sucked and drained in to the reservoir. However, on many newer vehicles like yours the reservoir is pressurized and called a surge tank.
Backfiring is usually an indication of a lean condition. When it does it during cranking, it's probably timing related.
Blue smoke = excessive motor oil. Black smoke = excessive fuel. White smoke = engine coolant
The engine block coolant drain plug on a 350 Chevy Tahoe is above the oil pan, mid engine on driver's side
Place something to catch the engine coolant beneath your 1990 Chevy Corsica radiator. Remove the radiator drain plug with a 9/16 ratchet. The engine coolant will drain out.
Low coolant
Look on the side of the coolant overflow bottle. There should be a low mark for the coolant for a cool engine, and one for a hot engine.
The engine block coolant drain plug on 4.3 liter Chevy Blazer is located on the bottom of the engine, near the oil filter. It allows coolant to be completely drained from the block during maintenance.
The 1995 Chevy Silverado coolant sensor is located on the front of the engine. The coolant sensor will be a few inches above the thermostat housing.
Dex-cool
The heater core is probably leaking engine coolant. Replacement is necessary.
A 1997 Chevy Cavalier uses a standard 50/50 mix of antifreeze coolant and water. This keeps the engine from overheating and from freezing in the winter.
Engine coolant temp circuit high input. The engine coolant temp sensor make be bad.
Replace the engine coolant sensor, the one next to the thermostat housing. It could be sending the wrong signal to the ecm that the engine is still cold.
That means the engine is running HOT. Need to check the coolant level and check for coolant leaks.
