If the Saturn Vue is anything like the Saturn ION, chances are it's the front sway bar bushings. A design flaw caused them to wear out prematurely. This causes a clunking noise when going over bumps.
It is also very possible that it is a front control arm bushing. Start with the sway bar bushings (since they are cheap) then check the control arm bushings.
You have either run something over or your car is due for a service
It depends on when you hear the noise, but it likely a joint in the front wheel drive unit.
Worn out bushing or steering joint probably.
Don't switch on the fly, that's just stupid. You'll need a whole system overhaul.
If you operate a front wheel drive vehicle, the clunking noise you hear may be a CV joint bearing going bad.
lower control arm bushings are worn also stabilizer pins Had my replaced at about $570.00
radiator fan.
Brakes
Can be a loose shock, or loose suspension parts. Can also be loose exhaust system parts. I had a car that made a front-end knocking sound on bumps. Any little bump would do it. Turned out to be bad struts.

Front wheel bearing(s).
New CV joints will fix the grinding noise
