If she is not spayed she is likely coming into a heat cycle. Dogs are usually in heat for about 3 weeks. The first week they have a red discharge, then the second a clear or straw colored discharge, then almost no discharge the last week. Dogs go into heat at any time between 6-12 months usually. They are not normally bred until their third heat to make sure they are mature in body and mind before having to raise pups of their own. Usually they come in heat every 6 months after the first heat. You have to keep them away from all male dogs the entire heat cycle to avoid pregnancy and this includes not leaving them unsupervised in your yard as males may go over or under fences to get at a female in heat. If she is spayed sometimes a hormonal imbalance can cause swelling of the vulva. This can be from illness or a tumor. Hope this helps you!
I say this all the time, if it was your vulva swollen and bleeding, what would you do?
A swollen vulva and brownish-red discharge in a 12-year-old German Shepherd could be due to a vaginal infection, hormonal imbalance, or a uterine issue such as pyometra. It is important to have your dog examined by a veterinarian to determine the underlying cause and provide appropriate treatment.

During the estrus phase of a dog's heat cycle, which typically lasts around 2-3 weeks, symptoms may include a swollen vulva, bloody discharge, increased urination, restlessness, and attraction to male dogs. It's important to monitor your dog closely during this time to prevent unwanted mating. If you notice any concerning symptoms or behaviors, consult with your veterinarian for guidance on managing your dog's heat cycle.

it should be. or the calf could "get stuck". the vulva will swell prior to giving birth unless the calf comes really early.
A cocker spaniel's vulva appears as a small, slightly raised area located just below the tail, with a pink to reddish coloration. It may vary in size depending on the dog's age and whether she is in heat or has recently given birth. The vulva is typically surrounded by fur, and during estrus, it can become swollen and more pronounced. Regular grooming and health checks are important for maintaining the dog's hygiene and detecting any potential issues.
Take her to the vet.
