When changing all of the brake shoes on an Echo, take one pair off of one wheel. Open the new box of shoes. Physically match the proper new ones up to find the ones that go on the front wheels.
pad brakes are disc brakes, it's known as changing brake pads for disc setup and changing brake shoes with drum brake setup.
brake shoes or pads are worn and need replacing
the smaller of the brake shoes goes to the front side. remember to lube and screw the brake adjuster together before reassembling.
Its got disc brakes in the front, therefor brake pads and its got drum brakes in the back, therefor brake shoes
The most problematic cause is that if your brake pads/shoes are worn down to the changing point. Other causes can be that your rotors/drums are glazed (due to overheating) and or simply brake dust and other road debris.

brake shoes fit drums and now adays go on the back. Disk pads go almost always on the front. Old cars used brake shoes on front and back ,but that stopped early 1970's. New cars have disk pads front and back, thought i better through this one in for all the new car buffs.
dead easy........wheel off....retaining pin out...lever the brake piston, back into housing,to make room for new shoes..swing housing up...old shoes out,,new shoes in..pin back in..and pump the brake pedal,,,
brake pads can either be on the front or rear of a car... it all depends on if it has disc or drum brakes on the rear... drum brakes have shoes not pads
remove the neg wire to the battery and leave it off for 15 minutes
