The voltage which charges the capacitor can only hold peak voltage. It can only use the energy stored in the capacitor if it uses faster than the power supply can replenish it causes a ripple.

Ripples form in rocks because of heat. This happens because as sedimentary rocks stay underground, for long, they create layers of different things such as diamond bits, marble etc. right on top are the ripples. BTW this is using my knowledge and looking at pictures and intelligently guessing what could be xD
