Turn your AC on and if the squeal goes away in a couple of seconds it has to do with either the idler pulley or the AC pulley itself. Mine was both.
Check the belts. The most common cause of squealing is a worn or loose belt on the front of the engine.
A Geo Metro is a front wheel drive vehicle. When a squealing noise occurs when the wheel is turning, it can be an indication of damage to the CV joints.

A worn belt will cause a squealing noise. The squealing noise is caused when the belt slips. Tightening the belt will temporarily fix the problem.
Bad belt. Worn tensioner. Bad compressor.
Its almost sounds like a dolphin noise.

When the brake pads are worn the rivets will actually touch the brake rotor when the brakes are applied. The brakes should be changed immediately.
