Black smoke is usually caused by excessive fuel consumption, alot of things can cause this but if the turbo was recently installed, the injection system (controlled by the ECU) needs to be reprogrammed for it.

If the turbo is too small, the turbo can go into surge, it is the part of the compressor map where the air flow is unstable. It is to the left on the compressor map, will cause damage if it taken care of.
Either the turbo/turbine housing is too large, the waste gate is stuck open, or the turbine fins are damaged.

if this is turbo you could have to much oil in and it gets into the turbo and will run on its own
