Bad water conditions caused the problem and killed the fish. You were obviously not keeping to the basic rules of fishkeeping. The basic rules are :- 1 inch of fish NEEDS a MINIMUM of 1 gallon of water :- Every tank MUST HAVE a permanently running FILTER. :- Every tank MUST HAVE at least 50% of its WATER CHANGED EVERY WEEK. If you keep to the above rules faithfully, you stand a chance of keeping fish healthy. If you don't keep to those rules, I can guarantee you will constantly have fish getting sick and dying.

Hot spots are caused by over heating the rotors Causes: "riding" the brakes, faulty brake components, general abuse
If the white spots are confined mainly to the back and rump, it's a blanket. If they are scattered all over it, it's a snowflake.

It is very serious and if it starts to turn to a burnt black color then it is caused by smokeless tobacco and soon after the black spots takeover the white spots you can and will die! It doesn't take that long! If you get these symptoms I would go to a doctor and STOP USING SMOKELESS TOBACCO OR EVEN SMOKING CIGARETTES!!!!
