Daylight and darkness are caused by the rotation of the Earth when it rotates on its axis. One half of the Earth is always away from the sun. This means that you can not see the sun if the half of the earth you are in is not facing the sun. This means that the sun's light waves can not be captured in our eyes, therefore creating darkness. With daylight a section of the earth is facing the sun so the sun rays are caught by your eyes, so you see light.

As the earth rotates around the sun it too is spinning on two axis. One full trip around the sun is a year. One full spin is a day. As it spins it either faces the sun or the moon. When facing the sun it is day when facing the moon its night.

A day is formed by the earth rotating around the sun. To us, it looks like the sun is moving, when actually its the earth, because the sun never moves. The moon slowly rotates round the other side of the earth. When it is day time on one side of the earth, it is night time on the other side.

The sun shines all the time. The planet Earth rotates on its axis. Different parts of the planet face the sun as it rotates. When a part of the planet is facing the sun, it experiences day, and when it faces away from the sun it experiences night.
