Abnormal fluid collection in the lungs can be caused by lung infections or heart problems. The biggest problem with it is that it causes shortness of breath that can lead to respiratory arrest.
the simple answer is drowning. Blood is a fluid just like water, and it causes the same effect as drowning.
Most lung problems originate within the lungs, from a variety of causes. The only way the kidneys could contribute to or cause a lung problem is if the kidneys do not clear wastes and fluids, causing systemic fluid overload. For example, ascites, fluid in the abdomen, could cause pressure on the lungs and prevent the lungs from expanding fully. Severe kidney disease could lead to or be in conjunction with Congestive Heart Failure (CHF) which causes a backlog of fluid/blood, which can affect the lungs. But generally, lung problems are caused by genetic/family history; respiratory allergies; chronic lung infections; smoking/chemical inhalation / pollution; or secondary to heart disease, etc.
