What causes people to act crazy on ambien and to have so many personalities. They can be kind and loving or fuss about everything or just blow up and cuss everyone out and get violent?

I can say that I took Ambien many years ago and the only effect I had was amnesia. I could remember everything before taking the pill and absolutely nothing between after taking the pill and waking up the next morning.

My mother is a regular user of this pill and gives it to my brother as well. Both of them act crazy. My mother also takes other pill to help her sleep besides ambien (generic form).

Tonight she told me I was the sorriest person on the face of the earth and that I was full of Satan, she wished she'd never had me and other hurtful things. This for no apparent reason as I am a very good daughther and take good care of her. She was horrible, would like to cry over her comments made to me.

She tried to get in the car (at 11:30 PM) and go somewhere (in her PJ's) and that was an ordeal. She was very aggressive and mean. Ultimately, as I write, she is in bed sleeping. I am keeping the night watch as I worry she will wake up and do something stupid. No matter what horrible things she said to me, she's still my mother, the only one I will ever have, and I do love her. This drug really makes it difficult on family members.

I think it really should be taken off the market.

It is a well documented fact that Ambien will cause amnesia and other CNS issues. My mother displays a mean horrible personality on this drug. Although, possible it is worsened because she takes Elavil and Xanax and maybe something else with the Ambien.

I believe I need to report this to her doctor, but he may not believe me as EVERYONE sees her as a kindly older lady. That is, everyone outside of the immediate family.

I have reviewed the side effects of this drug and found that it can cause glaucoma, of which my mother does have. There is no incidence of glaucoma in our family history.

Another side effect she has is anemia (with no other known cause), she displays a lot of aggresive reaction (as does my brother - who mixes it with Soma).

This drug is a controlled substance classified as a Schedule IV by the federal government and is addictive.

All kinds of abnormal thinking and behavioral changes have been reported with this drug similar to the effects of alcohol and other CNS depressants.

Ambien is classified as a sedative-hypnotic for insomia. Ambien has a very similar reaction found to those found in date-rape drugs.

Ambien is a hypnotic drug; it fulfills its purpose by literally hypnotizing the brain to sleep. Biologically speaking, it binds to the brain's GABA (gamma-amino-butyric-acid) receptors, making the neurotransmitter perform its job more effectively. GABA's job is to promote sleep. GABA prevents the brain cells from firing, which causes you to slumber.In some people this causes other reactions, think LSD. Ambien is a hallucinogen.
