Usually after eating sweet things for a while your ( well as i put it) sweet tooth falls out and a new one comes in called a salty tooth then the cycle repeats itself. But if you want the logical explanation it is that:
Salt is an important chemical used by the body for a lot of chemical reactions and, yes, for balancing purposes. If you're craving salt, it most likely means that your body needs more salt to successfully complete a certain chemical reaction that it's doing repetitively at the moment. You can also try drinking a base drink (as in, opposite of acidic drink) such as milk, which would react with your stomach's acid to produce purer salt. You can also try absorbing different kinds of salt -- maybe you need a certain type in particular for a specific chemical reaction in your body and you're "low on supplies" of that particular molecule?
If you end up craving salt even ten minutes after having some very salty foods, it may also be that your body needs to get rid of some unwelcome acids, in which case drinking a lot of water is probably the best solution. Just don't drown yourself (yes, it is possible to drown by drinking too much).
