TO WHOM IT MAY CONCERN: I HAD NUMBNESS IN MY GUM, ONLY ON THE LEFT TOP SIDE...FOR OVER A WEEK.....I SAW AN ORAL SURGEON..WHO DID A PANORAMIC X-RAY...ALL NERVES TO THE GUMS LOOKED FINE..TEETH WERE FINE....HE ASKED IF I HAD BEEN STRAINING??? WHICH I HAD NOT....BUT HE STATED THAT THERE IS A TRUNK NERVE, THAT COMES OUT A HOLE IN THE BASE OF THE SKULL( I IMAGINE TOWARD THE BACK OF THE SKULL, AND ON BOTH SIDES)).....THIS NERVE TURNS INTO MANY OTHER NERVES WHICH PROVIDE THE NERVES TO THE FACIAL AREAS( TEETH, GUMS, TONGUE, FACE , ETC)...HE SAID HE FELT SOMETHING HAD EITHER PRESSURED THE NERVE..CAUSING THE BLOOD FLOW INTO THE NERVE TO STOP FUNCTIONING PROPERLY( ID IMAGINE LIKE WHEN YOUR HAND OR ARM FALLS ASLEEP AFTER BEING IN WRONG POSITION) ,THEREFORE CAUSING THE NUMBNESS....HE ( THE ORAL SURGEON) RECOMMENDED I SEE A NEUROLOGIST, TO LOOK INTO THIS FURTHER..BEING THAT ALL MY NERVES TO THE TEETH AND GUMS SEEMED NORMAL IN THE PANORAMIC X-RAY!..THE NEUROLOGIST COULD THEN TAKE AN MRI.. OR A CAT SCAN...TO MAKE SURE NOTHING IRREGULAR IS GOING ON IN THE BRAIN AREA ( IM THINKING TUMORS OR ANEURISMS). IT IS VERY SCARY, AND ABNORMAL FOR THIS NUMBNESS IN TH EGUMS AN DTEETH..THEREFORE I AM TAKING IT TO THAT NEXT STEP...I RECOMMEND YOU DO THE SAME.. ESPECIALLY SINCE YOU ARE STRAINING, AND THIS IS CAUSING THE NUMBNESS!! BETTER TO BE SAFE THEN SORRY, AN DDIAGNOSE ANY PROBLEM EARLY( IF THERE IS ONE) SO IT CAN BE TREATED!!!
