∙ 12y agoIt's a combination of the spinning of the Earth and the various temperature differences between the extreme center of the planet and the upper levels, from ... approx 3800 miles down, and then up the remaining 3200 or so. The differences in temperature set up some currents, like heat rising off a radiator, and the spinning of the earth helps to turn it and that sets up the circulation.
