Conductors have a different molecular structure than wood and nonconductors do. For example, the atoms in copper allow electrons to "flow" through the protons and neutrons like a liquid. Wood, however, uses less complex molecules in its structure, such as carbon.

Is wood conductive?

No wood does not conduct electricity very well.

Do dry wooden sticks conduct electricity?

Yes and No. No. it's an insulator, and Yes, but very very little.

Why are switches made of plastic and not metal?

metals are good conductors of electricity. plastic and wood are insulators. they do not conduct electricity

What does not conduct electricity well?

I think it could be lead

What is a worse conductor of electricity water or wood?

This is a difficult question to answer. Water can only conduct electricity if it has dissolved minerals in it. While water from your household taps contains small amounts of dissolved minerals and will conduct electricity, pure water will not conduct electricity at all. The conductivity of wood depends greatly on the species of tree it is sourced from. Some trees have very conductive wood as a natural method of diffusing lightning strikes to reduce their damage. Generally, trees from regions with lots of storms will have wood that conducts electricity very well while trees from dryer regions will have less conductive wood. In general though, pure water is much worse of a conductor than even the least conductive woods.

Why wood does not conduct electricity?

Wood can conduct electricity if the wood is still green or wet, otherwise the wood has too much resistance (resistance is the opposition to current flow).

Does hickory wood conduct electricity?

Depends on the moisture content of the wood. When any wood is "green", the mositure content is high, and it will conduct. When dry, it does not conduct well.

Is wood conductive?

No wood does not conduct electricity very well.

Does wood conduct electricity?

Wood is normally an insulator but will conduct electricity when struck by lightning. The resins and water in the wood turn to steam and explode the tree.

Why does wood catch fire if it is bad conductor?

Wood is a poor conductor(non-electrolyte) because it doesn't have free moving ions to conduct the electricity.

Is wood a conductors or insulators in science?

Insulator. Wood does not allow electricity to pass through it nor does it conduct electricity.

Do dry wooden sticks conduct electricity?

Yes and No. No. it's an insulator, and Yes, but very very little.

Why does static electricity and wood stick together?

Objects like a dry wood stick does not conduct electricity but they may accumulate electrostatic charges on their surface

What materials conduct electricity the best metal plastic or wood?

metal conducts electricity the best

Does wood act like a conductor on very high voltage?

Wood does not conduct electricity regardless of the voltage.

Procedure to distinguish conductor from non-condutors of electricity?

Metals like Copper, Iron Steel conduct electricity. Wood, rubber mats, most plastics either conduct electricity very badly or not at all. Metals are conductors, Wood is a non - conductor

What is a material that does not conduct heat or electricity well?

An insulator.
