Glial Cells
glial cells
The nervous system has both. The active cells which carry information are the neurons while the glial cells are the support cells.
Neurons conduct electrical impulses in the brain. Neuroglia are cells that support the neurons. These cells undergo mitosis where neurons do not. Brain tumors are formed from neuroglia cells because they mitosis.
neurons (which trasmit impulses) and glial cells which provide support and nutrition for the neurons.
Glial cells, sometimes called neuroglia or simply glia are non-neuronal cells that maintain homeostasis, form myelin, and provide support and protection for the brain's neurons.
The most abundant cells and are responsible for protecting and supporting the neurons in transmitting cognitive/ sensory information, however do not actually conduct electrical impulses themselves.
Neurons are the message senders and receivers (when you think of brain cells) and the glial cells are important for support; they maintain ions levels and provide structural support for neurons.
From what I read, glial cells and astrocytes support and nourish neurons. Maybe they work with brain cells but am not too sure. They communicate with other cells through synapses. Sorry b.t.w for not being too helpful and u probably canβt rely on this anyways π’. Ik this was like 7ys ago π
Neuroglial cells support and protect the neurons in the central nervous system.
CNS = Oligodendrocytes PNS = Schwann cells
