The great pyramid of Giza (in Egypt) needed 2.3 million blocks and according to other calculations it is concluded that around 4 million blocks were used.
Depends on the pyramid and the period it was built. The stone blocks used on the Step Pyramid of Djoser weighed on average 0.5 ton. The Great pyramid at Giza an average blocks weighed in at 2.5 tons although some weighed up to 70 tons. Later pyramids were often made from mud brick. The Egyptians had a standard size for mud bricks of approximately 3x6x12 inches.

The earlier pyramids built in the Old kingdom including the Great Pyramid were built from limestone and granite blocks. In the middle kingdom they were made from bricks that where made out of mud with an outer casing of stone.
