The cause of the magnetic fields around the earth is the earth's rotation and the convection of electrically conductive molten rock deep inside the Earth. The Earth rotates about an iron core, this produces an induction current that generates a series of magnetic flux lines that comprise the magnetic field. Because the Earth and it's core rotate at different speeds the electromagnetic force is strong. This is called a dynamo effect (the same effect as a simple generator with permanent magnets that powers for example the lights on a bicycle).

Where does the convection that causes earths magnetic field?

The convection that causes Earth's magnetic field happens in Earth's molten outer core.

Where does the convection occur that causes the Earth's magnetic field?

This happens in the earth's core.

What is the area that surrounds the earth's core?

The mantle. The area that surrounds the entire core is the mantle.

What are the causes of magnetic fields?

Earth's magnetic field is produced by the dynamo effectin the liquid metal outer core.

What causes Earth's magnetic field to have the shape it does?

As you might already know, a magnet is the most powerful at it's ends. So what the inner core of the Earth's magnetic field does is that it surround the Earth. Thank you.

What causes the magnetic field?

Which magnetic field? If you're talking about the earth, the magnetic poles have switched polarity in the past. The earth is not a solid magnet, it is a liquid, specifically molten nickel. When the molten nickel shifts the magnetic field of the earth can change.

How is earth a magnetic field?

The earth's magnetic field is caused by the fact that the earth has a moltern iron core. When moltern iron spins it causes an electric field. This causes an electromagnetic field. Some planets are too large or too small for the iron in their core to be molten.

How are Earth's magnetic force and the magnetic force of a bar magnet alike?

They both consist of "magetic flux," which is the invisible field that surrounds a magnetized body. This is why a compass-needle points North: i.e. it aligns itself with the Earth's magnetic field, since opposite magnetic charges attract each other; and essentially, a compass-needle is simply a small bar-magnet.

Where are the earth's magnetic poles?

Deep within the earth, along an axis which 'wobbles' around the earth's axis of rotation. This causes the locations called 'Magnetic North' and 'Magnetic South' to shift relative to the locations called 'True North' and 'True South'. The magnetic polarities of the locations 'Magnetic North' and 'Magnetic South' are south and north, respectively.
