Dynasty Warriors 5 previously had the most characters and then 6 just blew up the series.. then Dynasty Warriors 7 came out and now it has the most characters in the series to date. Dynasty Warriors 5 provides Musou (story) modes for all characters while 7 is similar to Dynasty Warriors 4 where each Kingdom has their own Story mode and you use a variety of characters. Details: DW5 -Musou mode (all characters story mode) -Free mode -Challenge mode DW7 -Musou Mode (by Kingdom) -Conquest Mode DW5&DW7 in common -Camp mode which allow you to view Characters and various other things.

Here is from my experience, I found Dynasty Warriors Extreme Legend edition is more like an RPG - you get gold and you have one shot to win in Musou Mode. It's pretty interesting. If you want to spice things up and have been sticking with the normal Dynasty Warriors 1- 7 or any two, then I'd say go for this one. Dynasty Warriors 7 is the plain version, most likely with upgrades to GUI as well as new characters. Same for XL, though. My recommendation is based on your taste.
