It is not clear to me that the church would necessarily be the center of a medical doctor's life. It is not a requirement of the job!. However for any person that is religious, the church would be central to their life.

The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints does not own or operate any hospitals. LDS Hospital and Primary Children's medical center were originally owned and operated by the Church but were sold to Intermountain Healthcare in 1975. They continue to be owned and operated by Intermountain Healthcare today. The Church does provide humanitarian medical supplies to hospitals and clinics in disadvantaged countries. It also sends medical doctors on training missions to train doctors and nurses in these facilities. This is the only association the Church has with any medical facility.
