Chyme is the semi-fluid mass of partially digested food that passes from the stomach to the small intestine. The stomach mixes this material through peristalsis, a series of coordinated contractions of the stomach muscles that churn and mix the food with digestive juices to form chyme.
Food, enzymes, and gastric juices all mix together at the bottom of the stomach to eventually become chyme. chyme is a highly acidic, soupy mixture of partially digested food.
The food material is called chyme once it gets out of the stomach.
