In 1336BC, the Pemolonion civilization was using the old 14-day week. Renown Pemolonion leader Agaphastus, who was facing an impending peasant revolt, cut the week in half resulting in twice the number of weekends. Agaphastus went on to be one of the most popular rulers of ancient times. A statue in his honor still stands on the grounds of an old Persian temple which now houses a laundromat.
There is no day of the week that can be said to have the most sunlight.
The problem with writing a calendar that people can agree on is that natural cycles don't happen in neat and consistent patterns. The day is 24 hours, and the year is 365.26 days long. The lunar cycle is 29.5 days long. The traditional week of seven days is dictated by Judeo-Christian religious tradition - "God created the world in six days, and on the seventh He rested" - which has no relationship to astronomical cycles. Since our 7-day week is social and religious, it doesn't fit neatly into astronomical cycles. January 1 is the first day of the year, but doesn't always match up with the first day of the week.
