A Barbie doll is for playing with or collecting.
The early Barbie dolls used a variation of Bakelite. It was hard, and the dolls were very durable. Because it was so hard, the dolls had holes in their feet to correspond to a "spike" in the high-heeled shoes that fit on their feet. It kept the dolls' shoes on.

Slave children often made their dolls from available materials, reflecting their creativity and resourcefulness. They used scraps of fabric, corn husks, or even clay to fashion their dolls, imitating the appearance of the dolls they might have seen in the households of their enslavers. These handmade dolls served not only as toys but also as a means for children to express their feelings and experiences in a world filled with hardship.

For making dolls, polymer clay is a popular choice due to its versatility and ability to hold fine details. Brands like Sculpey and Fimo are commonly used, as they can be molded, baked, and painted once cured. Air-dry clay can also be an option for simpler projects, though it may not provide the same durability or detail retention as polymer clay. Additionally, some artists use a combination of materials, like fabric and resin, for different doll features.
Clay is used to make potuary. play-do is like clay, but for children.
