When it comes to cleaning coins, the best approach is DON'T.
Anything you have at home will damage the metal. If it's an ordinary circulation coin that's no big deal, but if the coin has any collector's value, trying to clean it will knock a big hole in whatever anyone would be willing to pay for it.
