Delaware generally has a humid subtropical climate with hot and humid summers and relatively cold winters with some snow. There is still noticeable differences among climate from north to south despite being a small state, with a milder climate to the south and on the beach. Precipitation averages about 45 inches with anywhere from about 18 inches of snow in Wilmington to only a few on the beach. Thunderstorms are common late in the spring and summer, and it is prone to an occasional tropical storm, or at least remnants, in the late summer and early fall.
