Mild to cool climates. They aren't as suited for northern climates like that in the north-central part of the Canadian provinces as other cattle are, even though they can (and do) grow a thick winter coat in the winter. A lot of the time they are indoors in that climate, whereas down further south where the snows don't last long and winters are short, they are able to be outside more often. They don't handle hot summers as well though, certainly not those in the subtropical to tropical climates.

Dutch Belted cows were originally bred in Holland so they do fine with a northern European type climate. However being an antique breed, they are very sturdy and adapt much better to hot climates than say your typical Holstein cow. They can live pretty much wherever dairy cows in general live. They are disease resistant, have pleasant personalities, easy calving and sweet milk across a range of climates. == ==
