Manatees have no defences, save the thick blubber that covers their body.
Here are some links that explain what is being done to save the manatees.
Manatees as you might know are on the endangered list meaning they are less populated and are being killed or dying off fast because of water polution. But there is a hope for the manatees because of the "Save The Manatee Club" (look it up) I am an active member of this foundation. Let me explain... in this well structured foundation manatees who may have been hurt by boat propellers or crab nets are diagnosed and healed and if they are still in condition the are put in captivity until they heal.
I would save manatees if I could, but I can't, because I live in Iraq (which, other than a few lakes and two rivers, is dry), and I haven't seen a manatee in my WHOLE life.
Clubs have been made and national parks have been made around manatee habitats so they can be kept safe. Management plans have also been made for the Manatees.
It's a club that people join if they want to save Manatees.
just don't pollute, and people in boats should watch out for them in the gulf. I don't know if anyone still hunts manatees, but they shouldn't.
I am in the Save the Manatee Club. When you adopt a manatee, they take that money and use it for research and stuff to prevent manatee deaths and stuff like that. I would check another source too to make sure the info I am giving is correct.
No one really knows how many but there might be a lot so lets have more.
Yes, with Save the Manatee Club, you can adopt a real live manatee with a known history and biography; not a symbolic manatee like other organizations. Also when you adopt a manatee through Save the Manatee Club you know that your contribution will go to save manatees and manatee habitat. Go to www.savethemanatee.org to learn more about manatees and how you can help save this endangered marine mammal. Save the Manatee Club was founded in 1981 by singer Jimmy Buffett and Florida Governor Bob Graham.
Manatees are consumers.
