Dorothy's dress is a clean but faded gingham, with white and blue checks. She plans to set off with Toto, through the Munchkin land of the East, to find the Yellow Brick Road to the Emerald City of Oz. They leave the house with a little basket of bread, for food. She puts on a pink sunbonnet, and exchanges her old worn leather shoes for the attractive, comfortable Silver Slippers of the dead Wicked Witch of the East.

Dorothy Gale's hair is brown. In the original 1900 book edition of 'The Wizard of Oz', the character's hair color never is described. But the illustrations may lead readers to assume one of the lighter to medium brownish shades. In the beloved 1939 film version, actress Frances Ethel Gumm ka Judy Garland [June 10, 1922-June 22, 1969] appears as a natural brunette. In some scenes, her hair color looks lighter, others darker, still others reddish brown.

Her hair was red. In some photos it may look darker and cause some people to think its brown, but her hair was 100% red.

What color was dorothys shoes in the Wizard of Oz?

The Ruby Slippers were worn first by the Wicked Witch of the East and then by Dorothy Gale, in the 1939 film version of The Wizard of Oz. In the original book, and in the 1902/1903 stage version, by author and Oz series originator Lyman Frank Baum [May 15, 1856-May 5, 1919], the shoes are Silver Slippers. But those involved in the making of the film found the silver to wash out in comparison to the riotous colors in their Technicolor production. And so red was the color of choice.
