Orange cheese is coloured by annatto coloring . This coloring comes from the Achiote tree in Brazil. While the fruit itself is not edible, the orange-red pulp that covers the seed is used to produce a yellow to orange commercial food coloring.

Cheese is different colors because of the different milk types. Cow milk tends to produce a golden color and goats milk produces a white color.
