Rat terriers and Fox terriers are their own breed of dog. They all come from the same lines, going centuries back. But now due to breeding, these different breeds of dog have different characteristics although they may look alike they are in fact not all Jack Russell's.

Do you mean Jack Russel terriers? If so, they come in a variety of sizes and shapes outside the show-ring, but (in the UK), only what are now known as Parson Jack Russel terriers are allowed in the ring.
This is a difficult question to answer because there are so many different breeds such as the Jack Russell, Pit Bull, wire-haired Terriers, etc. Many were bred in Wales, England, Scotland, etc. It appears the origin of the full bred Terrier cannot be pinned down. Horse Isle Answer: England
Yes, they are very great dogs. But if you hate having holes all over your yard, then I wouldn't get one. They are very smart dogs and not that strong. Its good for them to be not that strong so its easy to walk them. They are hyper and love to run. Also they tear up your house if you don't teach them not to! I have one named Penny. Shes my little Jack Russell girl!
