The scientific name of printing is lithography. This name is derived from the roots "lithos", meaning stone, and "graphein", meaning "to write". Essentially, the earliest forms of printing were equivalent to etching pictograms, hieroglyphs, and other forms into stone. Then, inks and dyes were created. After that, wood blocks were used to print. Then, the printing press was created, which allowed for mass-production of printed works. Lithography is also used today to etch integrated circuits in microchips.
A squeegee would be used in screen printing to force ink through the printing screen and onto the substrate. It can also be used in cleaning, to remove the cleaning fluid or water from a flat surface.

Johannes Gutenberg is credited with inventing the first mechanical movable-type printing press around 1440. This press used separate metal letters that could be rearranged to print different texts, revolutionizing the process of printing and mass communication.
The printing press was invented by Johannes Gutenberg around 1440.
Before the Renaissance, people used the printing press for producing religious texts, political proclamations, and educational materials. Printing was mainly done by hand, with scribes copying texts manually. The printing press revolutionized the process by enabling large-scale production of written materials.
In the late 1440s Johann Gutenberg developed printing by movable type. (Printing using wood blocks and so on was already well known).Note that printing by movable type was already known in Korea. He invented the printing press in 1454.Gutenberg did not invent the printing press, the printing press he used was a modified lithography press that already existed. What he invented was movable type, which greatly sped up the process of setting up the press for printing.
Block printing was done by using individual letter 'stamps' to create pages of writing without any need for handwriting. Block printing is the direct predecessor to the pruinting press, which used printing blocks arranged and then (using a wine press) printing pages at a time. The printing press is the predecessor of modern day printers.
The printing press was invented before the Americas were discovered. The same kind that were used in Europe were simply made in America once people wanted them there. The first printing press in Europe was built by a German goldsmith named Johannes Gutenberg. He made it around 1440 and the first book he printed was the Bible.
He invented the Printing press because before the printing press they wrote books by hand and they took for ever to finish 1. So they were really rare and only the people that were rich could afford to bye books so only the rich ones could read. Then when Johannes Gutenberg invented the printing press everyone could bye books and eventually it spread through out Europe . The printing press could print 31 pages before you could write 3 pages .
