IBM was the first company to introduce a laser printer, in 1975, although the concept had been suggested earlier, by Xerox.
The IBM 3800 connected to their mainframe computers. The large device printed about 20000 lines per minute, so fast that multi-part forms were not needed. If you wanted 3 copies, you printed 3 in a row rather than using carbons as in impact printers.
