Dinner table politics means exactly what it says. People debate generally over politics and, in fact, it's bad manners! The dinner table is no place to talk about politics or debate any subject. Years ago wealthy people would eat dinner and then the men (generally) would retire to the library or den and have their cigars, drink port and discuss war or politics. Although women are certainly more out spoken regarding politics it's quite acceptable in this modern age to have dinner, leave the table and go into the front room area or a recreational area and speak about politics or other subjects.
