Your question calls for a value judgment and so is really a matter of opinion, but I think his biggest contribution was to move the Presidency away from the old wealthy aristocratic establishment along the coast and to the people who had moved West, recently cleared land and endured the hardships of the frontier. He thus gave the common people more of a voice in the federal government. Andrew Jackson was also the father of our modern banking system and his Indian policy m made the the "Trail of Tears" possible which forced Native Americans to leave the East Coast and go to Oklahoma. Jackson also averted a civil war. South Carolina declared it had the power to annul federal laws, specifically an unpopular tariff. Jackson declared this an unconstitutional decision and his resolve held the South Carolina government at bay.
