World War I impacted women by starting to add women to the work force. Even though pay levels were lower than male employees, it did open up non traditional work to women. For minorities, there was an opportunity to serve in the military and more job availability due to the war.

During World War II, a code based on Navajo was used by code talkers to send secure military messages over radio. A Navajo on each side of the radio link could talk in their native language and thereby transmit more information at a quicker rate than using traditional codes with encryption on the transmission side and decryption on the receiving side.
