There were SEVERAL issues regarding gender that were altered to suit younger audiences in America.

Sailor Neptune and Sailor Uranus are lesbian lovers in the manga and the anime. In the Americanized version, they are cousins. Very awkward.

Zoisite is made female although HE is a boy in the Japanese manga/anime and is basically the lover of another man, Kunzite/Malachite.

Fisheye from the Amazon Trio is a female in the American dubbed however HE is basically a transsexual that targets men in the Japanese animation.

Also, DIC, the dubber in America is guilty for completely butchering the script of Sailor Moon. Because characters were forced to change genders in several season, things don't really make sense or add up. They censored the transformation sequences and there is no English translation of Sailor Moon Stars for obvious reasons. American dubbing would have to cut too much out and there would be nothing to show.

Some other random things: The "holy grail" in Sailor Moon S, is called "the purity chalice" and I can guess because of the religious connotation. I also believe they say "sovereign" instead of "messiah" for the same reason.
