There are at least two general ways of doing this:

  • move an electrical conductor through a magnetic field
  • use motion to accumulate electric charges
The first of these is exploited in dynamos for producing direct current and in generators for producing alternating current electricity. The second is mainly a curiosity that is probably best represented by the Wimshurst machine.
