One of the girls in my scout troop is doing a handmade Christmas this year. She is making her mom a beaded bracelet, her dad a box to put his coffee in, a poster for her brother, and drawing pictures and framing them in inexpensive frames (can be found for $2 or $3 at places like Wal-Mart and Dollar General) for her friends. It isn't anything expensive, but it is really cool to know a child was sitting there making something with their own hands, and thinking of you.

Who is the gift giver in Germany for Christmas?

In Germany, the gift giver for Christmas is traditionally known as the "Christkind," which translates to "Christ Child." The Christkind is depicted as a golden-haired, angelic figure who brings gifts to children on Christmas Eve. This tradition dates back to the Protestant Reformation in the 16th century when Martin Luther wanted to shift the focus away from Saint Nicholas to the Christ Child as the gift giver.
