Thermal Power in India is mainly generated through coal, gas and oil. India coal power forms a majority share of the source of power supply in India. The electric power in India is generated at various thermal power stations in India. The power generated at these thermal power plants is then distributed all over India through a system of high tension cables by which electrical power is distributed throughout a region and national levels. The power ministry organization responsible for the thermal power management in India is the NTPC.
The main factors which are responsible for location of thermal power stations are proximity to water supply for coolants, proximity to raw materials, major cities for efficient power transmissions and better connectivity depending upon power consumption.
The reasons for this being located at the place is the the majority of coal
Mines are located
Thermal power plants mainly require lot of water as coolant, so some power plants situated near by rivers.
they require a lot of water as a cool purpose

What is the main source of political power in india?
thermal power plants are located in Orissa and Kerala.
The top five thermal power plants in India are: Jindal Tamnar Thermal Power Plant and Sipat Thermal Power Plant which are both located in Chhattisgarh. Talcher Super Thermal Power Station located in Odisha. Satpura Thermal Power Station located in Madhya Pradesh and Rihand Thermal Power Station located in Uttar Pradesh.
the thermal power stations are not only located in India, they are located in the part of the world where there are coal reserves, India has large coal reserve located in various parts of M.P,C.G,JHARKHAND & KOLKATA,this is the reason behind the location of thermal power stations in India,as these stations use coal for the generation of electricity

More than 65% of India's electricity generation capacity comes from thermal power plants, with about 85% of the country's thermal power generation being coal-based. The 10 largest thermal power stations operating in India are all coal-fired, with seven of them owned and operated by state-run National Thermal Power Corporation (NTPC).
