What could be wrong with a 1997 Geo Metro that will not run but will idle for a few seconds?

You might have a catalytic converter that is clogged. Could be the fuel pump. It may be providing enough fuel to start and operate the vehicle, but shuts down immediately so your engine starves. Could be out of time! MAy have jumped! I have a 93 doing the same thing and it jumped time on me!

No, it will not. After 1994 the Geo Metro became more curved so any part from before 1995 will not fit your geo metro. You can use any hood from 1995 - 1999 depending on the body style.

Check to see if parking lights are working - usually same fuse or could be light switch itself if all fuses are good

The transmission needs to have a proper flush. Drain the old fluid and pour in new fluid then take the 1997 Geo Metro for a test drive. If the problem still persist then the gears may be too worn.

check the water level... if that's good try a new thermostat...

If the car does not smoke badly this may mean you are using the wrong weight motor oil. Use the proper weight oil that a dealer will recommend.
