It could well be just that ... a fatty hump, but any lump such as this should be checked out as soon as possible by your doctor and diagnosed properly. Many people can get cysts and although usually never cancerous the doctor may want you to have it removed as it may cause nerve damage down the road.

Well, a small lump could be a lipoma ( a benign fatty growth), or a large fatty hump could indicate cushing's disease, a condition where the body produces too much cortisol. Other symptoms include:

- Obesity in the trunk with thin limbs (lemon-on-a-stick appearance, with stretchmarks on the abdomen)
- High bloody pressure
- Easy bruising
- A round ('moon-shaped') face
- Muscle wasting (i.e. undue difficulty climbing stairs or lifting)
- Thin skin
- Poor wound healing
- Increased predisposition to infections
etc etc.

If you are concerned, you should probably see your doctor rather than post on wikianswers...
